State-of-the-Art Neurodiagnostic Technologies

To ensure a precise and timely diagnosis, our Center provides on-site access to the most advanced diagnostic technologies.

Computed tomography (CT) is a diagnostic imaging technique that harnesses X-rays, magnetic fields and advanced computational algorithms to construct high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) images of internal structures and organs within the human body. It’s used extensively to detect a wide range of medical maladies, encompassing but not limited to tumors, infections, blockages and other pathologies. Notably, CT scans are particularly effective in detecting abnormalities in soft tissue.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an advanced medical imaging modality that uses powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to produce highly detailed 3D images of the internal organs and structures of the human body. This technique is especially useful in detecting and diagnosing various pathological conditions, such as cancer and stroke.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a noninvasive diagnostic modality that records the electrical activity of the cerebral cortex. The methodology is frequently employed to scrutinize the impact of various pathologies, including epilepsy and sleep disturbances, on cerebral function.

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic technique that measures and records the electrical activity of muscles in order to diagnose neuromuscular disorders and evaluate the effectiveness of treatments, such as physical therapy. EMG can also be used to guide surgeons during nerve-related surgeries.

Nerve conduction studies (NCS) are diagnostic tests that measure the speed and strength of signals sent through a nerve. They can be used to diagnose peripheral nervous system disorders, such as carpal tunnel syndrome or other forms of nerve damage.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a noninvasive treatment that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood, behavior and cognition. It is often used for people with depression or other nervous system conditions who have not found relief with medication or therapy. TMS is performed in a healthcare setting and does not require anesthesia, allowing patients to return to their daily activities right after each session.

Neuropsychological evaluation involves assessing areas of functioning that may be affected by brain disorders, such as memory, attention, emotions, language, information processing, visuospatial skills and executive functions, including organization and planning. A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation helps provide a more complete understanding of how a brain disorder has affected an individual, serving as part of a roadmap for rehabilitation.

Our team of specialists uses advanced tools to inform how stimulation targets are programmed for each patient. Our team of neurologists adjusts the deep brain stimulation (DBS) device’s electrical stimulation parameters—such as the amount of energy, the frequency and the placement of the current—to maximize symptom relief. These adjustments are based on ongoing observation and feedback from the patient and their medical team.
